Why wont a G4 cpu work in a b+w

I have a G3 b+w without a processor and a G4 pci with a zif processor with a bad motherboard (bad connection on power plug) if I put the G4 in the b+w it wont boot, it just gives a light beep, no chime, I would like to fit the G4 not buy a G3, any ideas?

Your jumper block isn't set c

Your jumper block isn't set correctly probably. Look into that. It is an easy fix.

B&W G3 systems have a block i

B&W G3 systems have a block in the ROM code preventing the G4 from functioning by default. Search around for the G4 Firmware Patch that will remove the block.

Also, the jumper block will need to be reconfigured if the speed of the G4 is different than what was in there (otherwise it will probably be underclocked)

You need to unlick your ROM

Put the G3 processor back in the Blue and White

Download this: http://eshop.macsales.com/Tech/FTP/newertech/BWG4Enabler.sit

Follow any instructions the BWG4Enabler tells you to. You might have to read a Readme file.

You will probably have to unlock your open firmware, the Readme or program will tell you how.

Have fun.

Unlocking firmware is easy, a

Unlocking firmware is easy, all you have to do is hold the programmer's button on the front in, hit the power button, and continue holding the prog. button for about 4 seconds until you hear an odd beep. Then let go of the prog. button, and the machine will automatically reboot with it unlocked.

Dont forget to do what NaturG

Dont forget to do what NaturGirl said. The beige has a 66Mhz bus, so to go to say, 400MHz, you have it set to a 6x multiplier. If you use these same setting on a B&W with a 100MHz bus, then you will be operating it at 600MHz, and it obviously will not boot at that speed. Set the multiplier for 4x, and it should work fine.

The beige G3 has a 66MHz bus, not the B&W G3. And if the G4's motherboard is dead, there is a chance the processer is as well.
