New apple IIE now what?

Just picked up a IIe, well two IIes and 5 disc drives a monitor and a 512k. I remember these in elementary school, but I'm unsure what to do with them now.

The easiest way to get a boot disc for the IIe?

And how to get Oregon trail on a 5.25 floppy, I have a package of Blanks

And once I get all that, can I boot from oregon trail or do I need to put the os in first then play the game?

Ask someone to send you one in the mail.

I think that's as easy as it gets.

Someone else (or several someones) will also tell you about a thing called ADTPro.

I would tell you about ADTPro, but someone beat me to it. Smile

Seriously, if you have an appropriate serial cable and a Super Serial Card in your //e, you're all set to start transferring disk images form a modern computer onto your //e. Alternatively you can use an RCA style audio cable from a modern PC into the cassette input port, just be prepared for it to be somewhat slower.

Oh BTW, direct link to ADTPro (which includes all the setup details you're likely to need):
http://adtpro.sourceforge.net/

There are numerous places to download Apple II disk images, but the biggest is the Asimov FTP site:
ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/images/

Another good site is the virtual Apple II site where you can run games in your browser (and download the relevant disk images):
http://www.virtualapple.org/

Cheers,
Mike

It's definitely slower, but using the cassette method can sure fix some serial port headaches, especially for new users. Very satisfying the first time once you copy a disk image over and it actually works.

For me the ultimate "must have" on any Apple II is a CFFA 3000. Who knows when he will have another run. Sometimes they show up on eBay. BUT ever since I got my CFFA 3000 for the Apple II and the Floppy Emu for the 68k macs I haven't touched a floppy since. And I can't honestly say that I miss them. I use them for decorative purposes only now! Biggrin

Gdan,

The last news I heard was that
Rich was supposed to roll out
a new batch in November.

This is all speculation.
There are many folks waiting
to order one.

Last I head, it has been delayed...

Steven :)

Not enough demand for a batch to be run...

Unless something has changed in the last 3 weeks...

Re: New apple IIE now what?

Because I sent a request of interest for a CFFA3000 to Rich and I received feedback from him
mentioning that he's probably doing a new batch November 2017 if the requests are as low
as of today.

It's great! I'm currently parring down my A2 stuff. Holler if you might be into a Transwarp II or a 1mb frameworks?

If you have no old Apple stuff to get disk images up and going? I must say the Floppy-EMU is the one accessory that is gonna get you some easy and instant gratification. Smile Happy adventuring!
