USB PC WebCam for OS X

Is it possible to use a pc webcam on a Mac?

Has anyone gotten one to work?

Is there a good reason why it can't work?

The reason being, of course, you can pick up a pc webcam for under $30.

My logitech works just fine with OS X. Granted, it's OS X supported.

It's really hard to find an OS X supported webcam.

With Xs built in drivers, or

With Xs built in drivers, or IOXperts 3rd party drivers, I would say you can probably use about 90% of all off the shelf cams. Even if the box doesn't say "Made For OSX" chances are good it will work. The only downside is you don't get tech support from the manufacturer. My advice is carefully unpackage a newly purchased cam, keep your reciept, and if it doesn't work, take it back and exchange it for a different brand.

http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/ Macam!

NOTE: Just because the Macam site doesn't list a particular camera as supported, don't think it won't work. My no-name cheap Wal-Mart POS USB camera works with it. The driver really only cares what controller chip is in the camera, not whose name is on the outside. Wink Incidentally mine was only $10 on clearance, and at the time I thought I paid too much. Now I feel it was cheap enought to hack. :ebc:
