Apple IIe - LCD screen displays only B&W

My Apple IIe works in color with my HD TV,  but I can't tie up the family room with projects, so I dug out an old Philips PD9012 NTSC/PAL car DVD player which has a second detachable screen. The second screen displays color when connected to the DVD player. But when connected to the Apple IIe, this second screen only displays black & white, as well as incorrect aspect ratio. Is there a way to get color out of this particular device? (I'd be interested in correcting the aspect ratio, but I'm less concerned with that.)Thanks for any advice!

To say that the video from an Apple II plays fast and loose with the NTSC standards would be an understatement.  Some devices just aren't compatible.  LCD devices in particular are hit or miss.

Since you can get a proper signal from the VCR, try running the Apple through the VIDEO IN of the VCR and see if that works.

That's a common way to deal

That's a common way to deal with the issue.  There are other converters to go from NTSC to VGA or HDMI which might be a possibility, but those are hit or miss too, so you would want to make sure you got one that was known to work.  I can't give any particular recommendations there.

Ah ha! The VCR trick worked!

Ah ha! The VCR trick worked! Thanks so much! (Lots of wires to and fro, but it's a small price to pay.)
