14.31818MHz Crystal required - Can anyone help?

Hey everyone,

I am trying to convert a couple of Apple IIe NTSC international motherboards to true NTSC.

I live in Australia and as such cannot get colour without replacing the crystal.

I understand that the system was very picky with the crystal and it needed to be just right.

Can anyone sell me a know working crystal or 2?  If so please message me.

Thank you!!

I'd be surprised if you can't

I'd be surprised if you can't find one at whatever online electronics supply house you prefer in your country.  I think these crystals were very common in a great deal of A/V equipment back in the day, so I'd think they'd still be very available.

14.3181 crystal

Hi mamejay,

check out this e-bay link for 10 (3w shipping from China):

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=crystal+14.318&_sacat=0

These are different form factor (HC49/US) but might work.

If not, I might (not sure) have the correct crystal...would take me some time to go through storage though, as it is all packed away. (I'm in NSW).

Thanks for that everyone.  I

Thanks for that everyone.  I have tried a few generic ones and they do not work.  Reading on mulitple sites it seems there was a very specific type that was required.

I have already waited a few weeks ordering to be disappointed when I install the crystal.  That is why I was after a known working one.

I will keep looking.

not all 14.31818 crystals

not all 14.31818 crystals will result in proper color burst timing.

There is an old post in my blog with a couple of part numbers that do work.

This is fascinating.  Given

This is fascinating.  Given identical frequencies, why is it that some crystals work and others do not?

Unknown. Try it and see. Likely some are just not as exact as labeled or are mislabeled...

They NYMPH worked to fix my board years ago. I never would have thought this could be the problem.

bought some from them and now I have colour on my CRT TV.  Cost me a lot more than ones from China but at least they work.
