I realized that the old thread I started (gee, it's been over 2 years!) on Word Juggler has a title that really doesn't apply any more. So, I figure I'd start a new thread.
I'm interested in tracking down a disk image of Word Juggler, but it has to be 2.7. Earlier version required a hardware modification to the Apple IIes to work.
Two years ago, none of the usual sources had it.
I'm on the verge of selling, recycling my old Apple II stuff, but I figured one last fling of playing around with it would be in order!
And WJ is the one the got away!
Asimov has 2.5. What modification was necessary?
David, thanks for responding! Word Juggler required adding a physical hardware dongle to the IIe-- to the motherboard somewhere, perhaps between the keyboard connector and the motherboard.
It was a blunt copy protection mode. WJ also came with replacement keycaps with its special commands. The program doesn't work well or fully without the hardware--at least with the versions before 2.7. (See the other thread where, IIRC, I described the dead-end one gets into using it.)
From what I've read, they got up to v. 2.9, but anything 2.7 or higher is supposed to be fine and can be run without the hardware mod. Apple itself published a Knowledge Base article about the change--see http://support.apple.com/kb/TA31965?viewlocale=en_US
Hope that helps! I should probably try v. 2.5 again and see what goes wrong. It's been a while--and I have both IIc, IIc+, and IIes I can test it on!
In case anyone else is searching for this, Word Juggler 2.7 is now available at the Internet Archive. (Yes, it's a decade later, but it's appeared!)
Go to https://archive.org/details/WordJuggler
On the right hand side are a bunch of links. Below those is the phrase SHOW ALL 23 files
Click on the phrase "SHOW ALL". It opens up a new window with a long list of files. In there is the one you want. It's titled WordJuggler.PO That's an Apple II disk image.
The rest of them are of no help. (I've checked!)
In any case, click on that title and it will download the disk image to your computer! From there, load it into your emulator -- e.g., Catakig, Sweet16, etc. on the Mac.
There is no manual for 2.7 there, however. I did find, though, one for version 2.5 for the Apple IIe that should be helpful. It's also on Internet Archive.
Go to https://archive.org/details/WordJugglerManual
I downloaded the PDF version.
Key mapping is a major issue, however. I have discovered that Control-Option in the Catakig emulator is the same as the Open-Apple key. So, Control-Option-/ is the same as Open-Apple-?. That's as far as I've gotten! In the Sweet16 emulator, it's option-Command for the Open-Apple!
My problem now is that I haven't found a key combination that maps onto Closed-Apple! Anyone know of a trick for that. A follow-up. In Sweet16, Option-Shift is the same as Closed-Apple! A key tip about the Sweet 16 emulator. Under Preferences, CPU, drag slider to 3 tick mark for Normal. Otherwise, the rapidly blinking cursor in word processors and adventure games will drive you batty!
Also, if anyone knows of a 2.7 manual, please post a link! Thanks!

Found another Internet Archive webpage for a later version of Word Juggler. This one is for version 2.8 for the IIGS! But it may well work on the IIe and IIc series
https://archive.org/download/e2gs_0704_Word_Juggler_v2.8
Select the file 0704_Word_Juggler_v2.8.po (the fourth line there)
Of course, the other fun thing I'll try, at some point, is to transfer the .PO disk image to an actual floppy and boot it up in my Apple 2c or 2c+. That will definitely bring back some memories! Never owned it; used Applewriter, but was always intrigued by it!
