Please allow editing of postings

I see the subject has been up for discussion before, with explanations for why there's no edit option after having pressed the "Save" button for posting.... but this being several years back I'm wondering if it's been looked into again, perhaps even a software update for the forum software?

Most forums allow editing a post -at least until a followup by someone else has been posted.

An option that allows editing

An option that allows editing up until a follow-up post would be great. Has anybody seen a drupal module for that?

The editing was allowed here

The editing was allowed here too but some time ago was disabled. The censorship here is at maximum level too. I do recommend you vcfed forum or others.

It was turned off because

It was turned off because ocassionally people would delete all their own posts, which would render the converstaions they participated in difficult to follow, which is particulalry an issue when it's a technical discussion. By contrast the primary advantage to editable posts is the ability to fix mistakes, which cna be compensated by a combination of using the preview opetion, and making a follow-up post. If there's a drupal module that allows for time-limted editing, though, that would be a great solution.

I'm baffled by your censorship comment. I don't censor posts, and I think it's been years since I've banned anybody that wasn't a spammer. Please explain up your accusation.

Tom, I think the majority of us know that you do not censor posts.

History has shown that you censor  obvious phishing scams and your oversight on that is appreciated.

But it surely would be nice if we could edit our posts for mistakes & typo's.

My real account here was banned. No warning, no explanation. Just banned. I guess I owe you this censorship. You can ban this one too. I don't care ;) Would have said the latter more eloquently especially for you ;) But there ar other people here reading.

What's your other account?

I've been thinking about this. I have no idea who you are.  Judging by the creation date of your account, I presume this banning would have taken place about 4 years ago. It's possible I banned somebody around that time and don't remember it. The only accounts that get banned without warning or explanation are spammers. You seem to have specific ideas about why you were banned, particularly for somebody who wasn't offered an explanation. But if you're here nearly four years later, still upset about it, it must mean something to you to be here. If you'd like to drop the matter, you may ignore my question about what your old username is. You're welcome to stay.

I turned on post editing with

I turned on post editing with a one hour window. Editing is working correctly for new nodes (first posts). For comments, editing itself is working correctly, but the edit button isn't showing up correctly. Until I get that working, if anybody wants to edit a comment, click the link with the comment's number (top right of the comment). In the url, delete the anchor, and append /edit

Just tried to edit but not

Just tried to edit but not sure if I understood correctly.

if anybody wants to edit a comment, click the link with the comment's number (top right of the comment). In the url, delete the anchor, and append /edit

So you first click where it says #11 (in my case here) which gives this link: https://www.applefritter.com/comment/88359#comment-88359

So, in the URL section of the browser you then remove parts of that URL? But what is the anchor? And what do you mean by "append/edit"?

OK, I just tried it but got an error message: "You are not authorized to access this page. "

Perhaps it won't allow editing once someone else has done a followup to the thread.

Aha! Yes, it worked this time (before anyone else posted a new reply to the thread.  <---- this line is after posting the first time

And here's some new text after doing the "URL edit trick" yet another time.

All we need now is an edit-button to click.

I believe what you're running

I believe what you're running into is the time limit. There isn't an option to limit editing based on whether or not there's been a follow-up post.

How long is the time limit?

How long is the time limit?

Any editing option is better than none.

Have you found an option for adding an "Edit" button?

Right now, it's set to one hour, but that's largely arbitrary.

I haven't found the issue yet. The edit button got 'lost' in the last big drupal update we did. I've confirmed that it's not related to the theme or to the advanced forum module.

The problem is the quote module. I've installed the v2 alpha. It uses blockquotes instead of BBCode, which I'm not sure I like.

It works!

It works!

I just posted a followup to another thread and there it was -an edit button with "60 minutes left". Good job!

Are there other options than a specific time limit?

60 minutes is great, but how about allowing editing until someone else has posted a new reply to the thread? I guess there are pros and cons to each solution, and I haven't looked into everything -just thinking out loud :-)

The only options are by time and by number of edits. I don't think number of edits would be of much use to us.

I've tried the new feature

I've tried the new feature several times now and think it works great.

If I'm not mistaken I get 60 minutes to edit my posting, and after editing I get another 60 minutes, so that's a super-useful feature! Thanks for looking into this and improving the forum!
