yes, the 6502 with the holes was never used on an Apple-1. There were two MOS packges and one Synertek package used, none had holes.
Did the NTI boards ship with ceramic packaged IC's at all? Alot of the registry boards have plastic 6502's. I have read at least one place that the plastic packaged 6052 was changed into a ceramic one.
Yes, most NTI boards also shipped with ceramic 6502 CPUs. The ones you see with plastic packaging were either swapped or boards that were never populated when assembled and were populated later. My Apple-1 has a Synertek 6502 with ceramic packaging.
Some of the very very early Apple II systems used a white Synertek, so odds are if the NTI board was populated by Apple when they were just about to start or already started Apple II production it had a ceramic Synertek. The MOS had one package with the ROR bug used with the pre-NTI boards that was wider and the NTI generally used the "spider legs" 6502.
