Hi everyone,
I'm new to Applefritter so it's nice to meet you all. I've got a busted ibook g3 that I'm looking to turn into something. However, I'm wondering what you have to have connected to the logic board just for the machine to boot up. Is it just the DC board with power going into it and the on off switch or do you need something more? At the moment I'm not having much luck. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Matthew
What alll is it mounted in right now? Do you have proper grounding and the like? I am not sure if the machine actively looks for the LCD or not. If so, then you would need the analog board and reed switchboard that go with it. But I havent ever tried to boot an iBook outside its shell, just torn lots of them apart for replacement parts.
I've currently got the logic board sat on a wooden table and kept the DC Board mounted in the ibook chassis. I did try connecting up the cables from the LCD but still it doesn't power up. To be honest, the logic board is untested so it could just be broken. I do get an orange light on the power connection though.
what about grounds? The logic board is most likely going to want more of a ground then the little one from the dc board. It generally gets this via the magnesium chassis. may be worth to screw in a few screws that have ground planes on them. This may not matter, but I know it can matter a lot with the stuff I work on while at work. Although RF is generally far more picky about good grounding then digital stuff.
Also there are separate logic and power ground contacts.
