PowerBook Titanium Reborn...

IMAGE(http://ebay.pixelmints.com/pbg4/images/bthumb.jpg)

This PowerBook was traded to me from a friend and had typical paint wear, so I decided to refinish it. The Apple logo has been colored using photography gel filters. The paint used is a metallic micro flake enamel, covered with an acrylic clear coat. The finish has proven to be very scratch resistant. The color scheme is a bit different from Apple's as it is more of a champagne silver. The rebuild involved a complete case tear down and rebuild, including dismantling the lcd housing. I get quite a few stares and am rather proud of it. It's my first Mac mod. Tale a look at the photos and let me know what you think...

Reply to Looks Brilliant...

Thank you. It's been a lot of work. The gels I used are photographic gel filters used by photographers over the lenses for color tones, click here for more: http://www.rosco.com/us/filters/filters-roscolux.asp... They worked really well, but I discovered that by placing the original white gel back in behing the new red and green gel, the colors really brightened up. So, if you use them sometime, remember to place a white gel behind them. When you say submitted, are you reffering to the laptop mods gallery? I would like to have it listed their but am not quite sure where to post it at. Any hints would be great.

Fan... ...tastic

I agree with the others -- it looks great!

I think the champagne color really makes it look warmer and more luxurious. Less tech-y and more like a piece of artistic furniture. Combined with the dark brownish wristrest/keyboard-surround area, it reminds me of classic Bang & Olufsen hi-fi equipment from the '70s and early '80s.

Well done!

Matt

The more I look at this, the cooler it looks. I'd love to see it in person. Really nice. The goldish finish and the red apple. I'd love to see it powered up. I can't imagine the looks people must give you.

Just a note:

Since your comments, I thought you might be interested to know that it's on eBay. I've recieved lots of positive feeback on this machine, not only at Applefritter, but other Mac Mod sites as well. I've decided to sell it. I plan to use what I get out of it to start another restore project. I had so much fun with this one, I can see this becoming a real hobby. If you care to watch to see what others think of it's worth on eBay, here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5721298537&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

Strange. Wonder what happened

Strange. Wonder what happened. 'Twas a nice gold finish and glowing red apple with green leaf.

Accidental Apple Overdose

Sorry about dropping the photos. I've placed them back up in my gallery for viewing. And for those that asked, yes, this PowerBook sold. It brought enough to make me happy and fuel my next project... that is, as soon as I find an Apple in need.
