Videx 80 column card connector

Hi all,

I got a Videx Videoterm 80 column card for my Apple ii plus. It was cheap but of unknown state and didn't come with any connectors. A few questions:

  • Anyone know where to score a softswitch?
  • Anyone know where to score a manual switchplate?
  • Anyone have instruction for building your own switchplate?
  • And anyone have a pinout diagram for the 5 pin molex connector?
    • I can't even test the card because I don't have that connector.
    • Happy to build one, just need to now which pins are for the video output

Thanks!

Warby

Here is the manual

https://mirrors.apple2.org.za/Apple%20II%20Documentation%20Project/Interface%20Cards/80%20Column%20Cards/Videx%20Videoterm/Manuals/Videx%20Videoterm%20-%20Installation%20and%20Operation%20Manual.pdf

This should be helpful. Pinouts are on page 148.  Probably lots of other things too.

Check the manual for the

Check the manual for the Videx 80-column card but if I recall correctly it's the top 2 pins that are used for the composite video signal.

A simple DPST switch mounted

A simple DPST switch mounted to the back of your II+ can do video switching duties.  You just need to switch the 40 column motherboard video with the 80 column card video when you want to flip from 40 column output to 80 column output.

You can pick up the video signal from the motherboard at R10.  Just desolder the potentiometer  side of R10 and divert the motherboard solder pad to your switch left pole, then connect the centre pole to the lifted leg of R10.  The remaining pole of the switch gets connected to the video out of the 80 column card.

If you want a soft switch they are pretty easy to build.  I've put together a little project to make a clone of it.

It is far from perfect and could probably use some layout changes for better fitment, but it works perfectly.  You can look at the project here:
