Apple 3

I have a slightly balky Apple /// that I've just fired up for the first time in years. It boots into ADTPro ok but on other disks it gives me a system failure 6 message. Or if I let it sit in ADT it will at some point crash to error 2.

Wondering what the best approach would be for figuring these out?

Re: Apple 3

I have been doing some investigation into Apple /// copy protection and have found that the system failure = $06 error can be due the dsk image being copied without the required information to allow it run. I'd suggest trying some disk images from different sources, ie Asimov, apple3.org to find ones this will work for you.

You can read more about what I have found on my recent blog posts here, and find links to a few images that I have tested and work in the Mess Emulator:

Re: Apple 3

So the Apple /// was an enclosed system (more heat than the apple ii) and it was known for the chips to "walk" out of the sockets, It might be a matter of re-seating (taking the chips out of their socket and putting them back in). you can buy this tool to make it much easier, http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-ARIES-IC-DIP-Chip-Extractor-Puller-Removal-Tool-5-95-ea-/222673237224?hash=item33d85bf4e8:g:2A0AAOxydkZRmBjg.

well there's always the percussive maintenance route IMAGE(http://www.callapple.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Screen-Shot-2017-01-22-at-8.20.27-PM.png)

Re: Apple 3

Thanks, yeah I kind of wondered when the RAM issue might find me. I actually ran the A3 dealer diagnostics and it came up with no problems at all for RAM. Seems the issue happens when the machine sits idle.

However the diagnostic failed the disk drive - 2240 address errors?! I put in an unformatted disk though for testing.. wonder if that was the issue.
