I recently picked up an Apple IIe. It boots on, and beeps like it normally should, but I get garbled video like in the image shown. There appears to not be any wrong (as far I can see) with the motherboard or traces. Is there a certain chip that would cause this?
The order of things to attemt relacing for this, are:
RAM
CD ROM
EF ROM
I personally would suspect the EF ROM. There is a minor chance that it is the character generator, but with that kind of outut, I doubt it.
Please also verify that you are connecting the composite port to an apropriate composite-in port, and that your signal frequency is correct (NTSC or PAL, depending on the //e system; you did not specify).
Yea its an NTSC Apple IIe connected to an NTSC LCD. Do you know which chip would be the EF Rom? This is my first Apple computer, Im much more familiar with the Commodore brand.
If the computer beeps, the CPU, RAM, and ROM are probably OK.
Looks like a video issue; possibly incompatibility with your LCD display. Do you have a TV or CRT monitor you can try?
Otherwise, there are numerous sites you can check to see which chips generate video and could be faulty.
