I'm looking for an Apple IIe keyboard or the keycaps off the keyboard. I have a German Apple IIe PAL version and want to change the key caps on the keyboard to match the USA version. The QWERTZ keyboard is doing my head in.
I'd be happy even just replacing the Z and Y key caps if possible.
Cheers,
Rob
Hello Rob,
the change of Z and y is just the minor point ... the real changes are within the special characters like # ( moving to shift+3, the moving of the star-sign as well as the change of the position of the slash and the backslash which are permanently used within proDOS setting pathnames - and the moving of several other special-characters too...
so i guess these Caps are the more important ones to change....
In former days a lot of the members within our local user group handled it that way that they covered the relevant Keycaps with a very adhesive foil and added the US-typo-logos with a Edding3000 in blue to make difference visible ... and then that Keycaps were covered again after marking with that adhesive foil to protect the markings against beeing rubbed of.....
alternate possibility is the use of ruboff-letters from Leteraset...... remove keycap... add signs/letters.... spray little bit of transparent varnish to protect from ruboff .....

Good point... The special keys as you say are annoying. I've been using a Spanish keyboard for years now living here in Spain. But I always default to a US/UK one Anyone willing to sell a working/nonworking US Apple IIe keyboard I'm willing to pay money
