Can this LaCie SCSI HDD be used for my Apple IIGS?
I found this SCSI hdd in my stash and I was wondering if this would work for my Apple IIGS with a FastRam SCSI controller? This had a label that it was used for a MAC with System 7.5.1 installed on it. Can I re-partition this hdd to work on my IIGS? I'm unable to find much info for this drive using my friend Google.

It’ll probably work. I have

It’ll probably work. I have two other brand drives of the same design that I tried out with a Ramfast. It was a while ago and I think I may have used a terminator on them.

Do you have the power supply that goes with it?

I do not. I didn't know it

I do not. I didn't know it needed a power supply. Do you know the specs for that power supply by any chance?

I mistyped. It wasn’t a power
I mistyped. It wasn’t a power supply but a power connector. What I got was an ADB extension with a power connector coming off it. For the Macs without ADB there was an adapter for the floppy port that had an ADB connector on it. So it’s +5V.

+5V makes sense anyway,

+5V makes sense anyway, because most of those 2.5" hard drives take +5V power, and I'd guess if you open up the case the external power connector probably connects directly to the power connector part of the hard drive.

Thanks I didn't realzied that

Thanks I didn't realzied that hole for the power adapter until you pointed it out. Guess its going to be tough to find something like that these days.

I was able to find a +5V power supply thats 2A and drive is powered on but now I don't have a terminator for it.

You could try it and see if

You could try it and see if it’ll work. SCSI can be a little unpredictable that way.

If not then there’s an oddball way to do it if you have the right stuff on hand. If you don’t have a 25 pin terminator, one messier way to do it is to use a 25 to 50 pin cable with a passthrough terminator on the end.

Or just buy a terminator.

Or just buy a terminator.  They're still available.

And not even very expensive.

Ah thanks so much. I'll go the safe way since these are hard to come by now days and SCSI are expensive on eBay. Thanks for all your help.

termination

If those disk boxes are used without any additional external drives, won't they need terminators attached? I don't think I've ever seen a 25-pin SCSI terminator.

Edit: a link appears above for such a device from IEC. There were also Apple-brand 25-pin terminators, although I can't remember seeing them often.

I can't get the Ramfast scsi

I can't get the Ramfast scsi to see the drive. I'll probably have to get the terminator.

I had 3rd party 25 pin terminators back in the day.  One came bundled with a LaCie (Quantum) 170MB drive I bought for a Mac Plus, and also I had them for other drives like one from CMS.

But most of the time, the external SCSI drives I had used a 50 pin connector and I used that type of terminator.
