IIc with different command prompt?

Hey everyone!

I have 2 Apple IIc computers and they both seem to work just fine, but I have noticed one difference that I can't solve, and I can't seem to find an answer on the Internet.

One command prompt is a square close bracket:   ]

The other machine's command prompt is this F6 symbol:   §

One keyboard is the US version, and that one has the F6 prompt.  The other is a CAN version (with French characters on some of the keys), and that has the square bracket prompt.  Other than that, both machines seem identical.

Anyone know why the prompts would be different?

Bad character ROM.

Bad character ROM. Verify by typing the ] key and see if it also displays incorrectly. Otherwise it would be a bad system ROM.

The //c has a keyboard switch

The //c has a keyboard switch. On the French version (and maybe the Canadian one), the prompt will change between ] & § according to the swith (FR or US keyboard).

Thanks, guys!!

Thanks, guys!!

OK, try the keyboard switch first, and pray like crazy that fixes it.

After that...potential surgery.

You guys are the best.
