Well that's one reason they are worth so much.
Think of how many Action Comics #1 were made and how many survived. Still remember my dad telling me how he ruined his rookie year Mickey Mantle baseball card by putting it in his bike spokes as a kid, which was common in the day. Or my original X-Men 1 thru 10 which my Mom threw out because she wanted the space in the basement, so all my old comics went bye bye....
