Macintosh SE (Original, no /30) 00000001/0000FFFF sad mac on boot.

Yesterday I decided to boot up one of my Macintosh SEs to use with a new peripheral a friend was looking to test out. This unit had been stored in a nice clean dry environment for the last six months or so since I last used it. It had been working perfectly fine, but now it's throwing this 00000001 error. An internet search shows that this is a bad ROM error, so I pulled the ROM chips and reseated them. No luck.

Unfortunately a Google search didn't reveal a ton of information, does anyone have any suggestions for where to go from here? Could it possibly be solved by getting a programmer and reflashing the chips? Or is there any third party replacement like with the SE/30? It's sorta surprising that they've just given up all of the sudden despite zero problems last time the machine was booted.

Mac of that era use masked

Mac of that era use masked ROMs that cannot be reflashed. SE ROMs also use some funky pinout that standard 27 series EPROMs are not drop in replacement. You need to either find replacement parts or find an interposer board to fit EPROMs in place of mask ROMs.
