Mystic Classic II hack.

Long ago I was active here (actually the previous incarnation of this forum)with some CC hackery. I did a fairly attractive hacking of a Zip100 Drive into a CC/550 that wound up in the Colour Classic FAQ in how-to form.

Right now I'm working on a project that'll use some of the knowledge gleaned from those projects of the early 00s. It's a Classic II, but I've replaced the Apple video system with a perfectly-fitting 9" grayscale SVGA monitor. The brain of this system will be an LC 575 (full 040) board. The idea is a 10th anniversary Mac in the style of Apple c.1994. I'm doing some plastic surgery to its face to bring it stylistically into line with the other class of '94 Macs.

I have the 575 ribbon-connector loom, but would really rather have a real CC loom if at all possible (see my WTB post in that forum). Divorcing the 575's main board-end connector of it's ridiculous slide-in CD-ROM and HDD connectors is driving me nuts. I'm going to have to replace a bunch of the little fiddly metal bits that came out with the ribbon. Once I get them replaced (or get a CC loom) I want a nice regular Mac 50-pin SCSI and power connectors so any sledless HDD will work.

I'll be using the monitor's own power-supply/analog board, and an LC power supply for the logic board and HDD power. They will be tied in internally to the original Classic II's power plug and switch. The rest of the original Classic II analog board will be stripped of electronics, and/or possibly cut away.

The case is a later Classic II case so I'll be copying the "audio enhancing" hole-starburst on the left side to the right for stereo speakers.

Anyway, this isn't exactly a CC hack, but the result will be very much a grayscale Mystic.

Do you make pics of your efforts available? Reads interesting.

My own website is still running:

Re: Mystic Classic II hack.

I have a vhack of what it will eventually look like.

I couldn't decide what to call it at first. The 10th Anniversary Mac, the Quadra Classic, Quadra/Performa/LC 300
The Quadra Classic is what I kind of landed on.

The facelift is actually just a little sanding and paint away from done.

There's a really long and convoluted development thread over at the 68kmla forums.

HI! Did you ever get your mod done? I tried years ago to replace the trinitron monitors on a few compact macs with small SVGA monitors but was not successful. Do you have any pinouts or instructions on the best way to do it?
