Need help identifying expansion cards in Apple IIgs
AttachmentSize
Image icon Apple IIgs motherboaord w cards427.92 KB

Hi,

I am looking at purchasing this Apple IIgs ROM01 system. Since I am new to the Apple IIgs world can anyone help me identify the cards installed in the system. This is this only picture I have of the motherboad. I have asked the seller but I don't think they are familier enough to ID the cards.

I know there is a memeory expansion card in front slot 8, but the others I have not idea. The card that concerns me is the card having the cabel soldered to  the Number Keypad header. Any idea what this card is?

Many thanks for any response.

I don't see a card connectred

I don't see a card connectred to the Keypad connector. Just a ribbon cable going to the back panel. So it's probably just for some type of external keypad.

Yes, After looking a the

Yes, After looking a the picture again, you are correct. It does look like the ribbon cable just goes over the Keypad header and not soldered to it. Guess I was trying to be so careful I was seeing things that are not there. I  see the SCSI and RAM  cards. Any guess what  the others might be? Thanks for replying.

Are you aware of the Apple II

Are you aware of the Apple II/III database at http://mirrors.apple2.org.za/Apple%20II%20Documentation%20Project/ ? It has photos of most interface cards made for the system.

From left to right, there is a Practical Peripherals GraphiCard in slot 1,

an Applied Engineering Datalink 2400 modem in slot 2,

an Apple II SCSI card in slot 7,

and an Applied Engineering GS-RAM rev. A in the memory expansion slot.

robespierre,

No I was not aware of that site. You still did great identifying them from an above view. I had not a clue.

That site is going to be very helpful as I get into the Apple II world more.

Now I am wondering how much momory is on that RAM card!.. ha.

Thank you very much.

There are certain clues that can narrow down such a visual search. The cable coiled at the top of the image looks to have an "AMP Blue Ribbon" style connector, which of course reminds one of Centronics printer ports. So I searched under printer cards. The next card has some large transformers and capacitors which are usually only found on modems, as well as a narrow ribbon cable that could be for a phone line. The next card has a quite wide connector and slot 7 is used for mass storage, so SCSI is likely.
