Hello everyone, after spending way too much on this project I’m really aching to get it finished. I have a iMac 350mhz slotload (no vga) motherboard and a 400mhz slotload (with VGA and firewire). I also have a 500mhz indigo iMac as well as my main machine, unhacked.
I have 3 areas of concern; power, video and firewire
I have two ATX power supplies ready to go and I have the proper molex connectors that I bought from Mouser.com. I’m tempted to follow this guys example and not use an inverter http://members.fortunecity.com/tinux1/sites/imac-atx.html. I’m going to be calling Mouser today so if I might be persuaded to go with soft power if you can help me find the part and convince me it’s easy. For power I have two options, simple and hard power or more difficult and soft power. (I suppose I just solder the wire to the pin and stick the pin the molex connector eh?)
I have a 20 pin ribbon ready to go. I plan on just running the computer headless and connecting with Timbuktu, I’ll put in a hard drive already configured for remote access. So I was thinking again I could go simple and just ground some pins and make the computer think there’s a monitor there or actually splice a VGA cable. Can any verify pins I would need to ground or connect together? This guy says 4 and 10 for 832x 624 http://pascal.monte.free.fr/imac/adapter.html .
Lastly firewire, the iMac adapter says it requires 15v, the highest I have is a 12v. Is it safe to use the 12v? http://www.webdrive.jp/mac/iMIU03e.htm
If you guys could help me with this I would be so grateful!
