Dumb Question: How to Disassemble LCD monitor?

Hey folks,

I just picked up an 8.4" LCD monitor/TV off eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8747723687&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Strangely, I'm having trouble taking it apart (for a Color Classic hack I'm planning). I've unscrewed the four screws at the corners on the back and have carefully inspected the case to make sure there are no other screwds.

But the two halves won't pull apart.

I'm hesitant to try to force them apart, as it could be that something with the electronics inside is what's holding the thing together.

On the other hand, this unit has to be able to come apart enough for one to reach in and disconnect any internal cabling - or else it couldn't have been properly assembled in the first place.

Any ideas?

TIA,
Matt

I bet you've checked already,

I bet you've checked already, but I often find screws hidden behind stickers that have been put on after assembly.

There's also a good chance there are plastic snaps holding it together around the perimeter, like the mightily strong ones on the emate case.

I found careful work with a popsicle stick carved into a thinner wedge works well. It shouldn't damage the plastic, but can be pushed in between the plastic halves to slowly work them apart.

Someone suggested using a gui

Someone suggested using a guitar pick to pry plastics off iBooks, LCDs, etc.

Not too bad an idea. I've got a few of those lying around!

Thanks

Thanks for your ideas, folks. Two things:

(1) Since making my post, I've done some Googling, and you guys are most likely correct - it appears all these units' cases are held together with rather stiff plastic tabs in addition to any screws that might be present.

(2) Guitar pick - what a great idea! I have a few lying around and will try them as soon as the Color Classic I have on order arrives (no sense in having the guts of the LCD monitor lying about unprotected before I have a CC case to put them in).

Best,
Matt

Not so much

I'm not eager to use a screwdriver because I'd like to preserve the LCD TV/monitor's casing and not gouge it all up. Generally I like hacks to be as reversible as possible.

Credit card works nicely

I had a similar problem where I couldn't take apart my CTX PV720A LCD monitor.

If you take out the 4 screws and remove the stand, then there are two really tough clips at the bottom holding the monitor together on the bottom right and left corners.

Best trick I found for these is slide an old credit card between the silver top and black back, and over the clips and with a gentle pull you can take it apart.

Works a treat Smile

The link to the auction seems

The link to the auction seems to have expired. Was that a second-hand or new monitor? If the seller seems like they'd have more, would you be able to tell us their ebay name?
