Sorting playlists on an ipod

Two quesions guys:

1. I have just got a new PC and can't download tunes off my iPod onto the Library. I have tried downloading a programme called ipodlink but it seems to be compatible with Mac only. Any suggesting for a free, easy way to do this on the PC?

2.As my tunes aren't saved to the Library, the only playlists I have are on the actual iPod. Is there any way of sorting the playlists (eg in order of song length, alphabetical order) directly on the ipod? I have done this before, but only in iTunes (where my tunes can't be downloaded to).

Thanks

1. You don't. Apple intentionally prevents you from moving songs from your iPod to your computer, to reduce the possibility that someone might move them to their friends' computers (a.k.a. piracy). Some shareware programs might help you work around this, but I'm not naming programs in a public forum.

2. Your iPod should allow you to view songs sorted by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Genre, or Composer. Press the Menu button until you get clear back to the first menu (Music, Extras, Settings, Shuffle songs, Backlight). Select Music, and the next menu should allow you to sort by any of the categories I mentioned above.

If you don't have this info entered into the song's ID3 tag, you'll have to do this through iTunes. iTunes should allow you to make changes to the ID3 information, even if you can't move, copy or burn the tracks.

Some sound advice there re: downloads, even though I know a lot of people have flu at this time...

Still a bit stuck on rearranging my playlists by ipod only (without PC) though. Let me explain myself properly: I have made a few playlists on my ipod, but as Apple are so scared of people copying music (which I don't by the way, I have paid lots of hard-earned cash for mine!) I can't download my carefully selected playlists onto my new PC.

So when I add a new album, it just goes straight to the bottom of my playlists, and I want them all jumbled up so I don't listen to the same artist for hours on end! I rearranged them on the PC in song title alphabetical order, but then when I unplug the ipod I find the albums have gone straight to the bottom of the playlist again! Someone mentioned something about an ID3 tag... is this the way forward and if so can someone give me step-by-step instructions?

Here's hoping....
