how do i burn cd's with my iBook G3 if i don't have an internal cd-burner?

I have an older iBook that does not have an internal cd burner. I would like to burn cd's from my itunes playlists, as well as copy audio disks. I am pretty sure it is the 2001 dual usb model. It has 500 Mhz g3 processor, and 576 Mb of memory. I would appreciate any tips/suggestions on the matter regarding the most appropriate external burner given my needs and what i am working with. The most importand factors for me are speed and cost. If i have left out any important info, please let me know. I appreciate any and all input.

Firewire

Hi,
I would consider getting a firewire burner, as with USB 1.1 the burn speeds are severely limited, and you have more options on speed/type of burner (CD,DVD,etc)

Hope this helps.

I used a Plextor 40x12x40 USB

I used a Plextor 40x12x40 USB 2.0 burner with my iBook, and at USB 1.1 it was only able to gt about 4x burning and I had to use a patch hack to get it to work with iTunes/Disc Copy.

QPS QueFire CD Burners. . .

QPS QueFire CD Burners. . . As long as you are using an operating system newer than OS 8.6, and have a firewire port, this is a fine way to go, and I see them cheap on Ebay. Mine burns a CD at 12x speed (it writes a full disk in about six minutes). You do not need any patches to use this with iTunes.

Here is what I did.

Check the apple compatibility list. Then dig in for an hour or two on our old pal ebay. DEFINATELY go with a firewire drive. USB 1.1 is just too slow for the job. If you just want a cd burner you should be able to get out the door for under $40.

I used to have

A TDK VeloCD, man, that thing would burn a full 80 minute CD in under two minutes, holy crap it was awesome! It started to flake out, and I had purchased my DVD burner, so I sold it for more than I paid for it!
