floppy covers with led windows

I need to find a bunch of those plastic things to cover floppy slots (for when you remove the floppy drive or replace it with a hard drive). The only computers I know they were used in were the SE FDHD, covering the top floppy hole, and I can't figure out what the part number is.

I think maybe the Mac II, IIx and IIfx used them also, but maybe they didn't have little plastic windows for the LEDs to shine through.

Anyone know where I could get some of those?

oh, come on!

How about a suggestion?

Just what do people do with the empty slot if they decide to remove a floppy drive?

Probably nothing

I don't think it would be a big deal for most people, mainly because it wouldn't have come up very often.

If you really want to fill in the holes get some plexi scraps and use those. Shouldn't take much to get some thats just the right thickness. That failing back the hole with paper and add some plaster. Theres a keyboard mod that used that idea to plug an unneeded port.

but the real thing looks great

I have one blank with a plastic window for HD LED,
and I pulled the floppy from my SE/30, put the blank in, placed the LEDs, and it just looks fantastic to see an SE/30 with no floppy, and 2 hard drives blinking away.

I have 5 or 6 more SE/30's I want to modify.
There have to be millions of these things out there... why can't I find any? Is it possible to get some from Apple? Is this a bona fide part?

15 years

Its been about 15 years since these systems were current. Even then there were only a few Macs that used the part. Apple drops parts after what 7 years? Not that they would sell you a dozen now even if they had some. As for why you can't find them now outside of Apple, nitch useage then, cheap small plastic part on a consumer system that had almost nothing to do with the computers ability to work. Chances are the few that did exist (certainly not "millions") were thrown away a long.

I hate to boil it down to supply and demand but low supply (most would have been put in the case) and next to no demand (mostly useless, no value). If you really want some you'll have to make them.

Maybe there is an applefritterer out there that knows stuff about injection molding?

I can hold my breath for a long time!

Try the LC

Try the original LC. They got one also, but they only fit with the curved-faced macs like my classic Smile
