I just reformated my hard drive on my iMac DV+. I thought I backed everything up but I forgot about the pictures imported into iPhoto. I've only done an OS X.3 reinstall and then update to 10.3.9. Most of the ways I've found online(Google) for data recovery are for Windows machines. How do/can I go about recovering those lost files??
Take care,
Danny
Although I hate to recommend it for anything else, i use it for Data Recovery. It does a decent job too! Just don't use it for defrag or anything else
I suspect you're pretty, well, hosed. "Unformat" utilities generally only work if you discover what you did right after doing it. If you've done an OS install on the same disk after formatting then you've already overwritten the areas containing the directory structures those programs use to piece the pointers to the files back together.
Unless you "zeroed" the drive there will still be fragments of the file data sitting in parts of the disk you haven't written to yet, but putting them back together is beyond conventional unformat utilities.

I found a different route. PhotoRescue Pro retrieved the pictures from SD card in my camera. I found all the pictures I needed...however the trial version won't allow me to save them, but atleast I'm on the right track now to getting those pictures back. I'm looking into the Windows version of the program as it seems you can retrieve the full image size, it just has "trial version" stamped on them...but they will still serve their purpose. If anybody can shed some light on PhotoRescue I'd be happy to hear.
Take care,
Danny
