Hi,
Just bought a g3 500mhz iMac. It has a CD-RW and i would like to update it to a combo drive. Is this possible? and if it is, then which drives are compatible? will any laptop drive do? (at least i think its a laptop drive)
thanks

It's for a Cube but it'll work in a slotload iMac too.
thanks for that, but are there any in the uk? and slightly cheaper? haha. thanks
Just bought one of the Matsushita CW-8122-C combo drives on eBay. They are made for powerbook g4's and are slot-loading so i figured it could work. It was only £16 so if it doesnt work i can sell it again, probably for more, as it was cheap. Can anyone confirm if the drive will fit? thanks
Your new drive won't fit without fabricating a new bracket, and the interfaces are different - you'll have to make a special cable. Other than that . . .
That's why the couple of aftermarket vendors for these drive upgrades can get a bundle of $$$, they include the bracket to fit as well as a special cable and interface board.

i just checked and the drive does fit to the adapter but its upside down so the adapter sticks out of the side. how can i turn this around :-S
Completely stuck!
