putting Tiger back on my Beige G3

I Inquired on another message board, but i want to get as broad a range of opinions as possible.

This is the setup:

Beige G3 417Mhz w/ 512KB L2
Rev. 3 board, Rev C. ROM
83Mhz Bus
384MB DRAM (ram runs at PC-133, not sure if it is running at 83Mhz, or the original 66)
PCI Radeon 7000 (original mac Edition) with 32MB VRAM
80GB IDE HDD (one 7.8GB partition, the other is the rest)
DVD-ROM Drive (IDE)
2GB Jaz
Currently running 10.3.9

I want to know, would it be feasible to put tiger back on this, now that I have an upgraded Video card. Would i see performance boost, or is it just not worth it to upgrade.

I happen to like Tiger that is on my iBook G4, but i don't know if it would be much of a slow down for the extra features.
I know that with some utilities, i can turn off stuff like Dashboard, and spotlight. So, I can reduce processor usage. I also can use Shadow killer, but still, is it worth it to go thru the hassle of setting up the system again?

I have grown quite fond of the RSS and New Mail on the system, and am dying to use the Video De-Interlacing on my new card (will it work). So, i just need some opinions.

Any other suggestions?

i was running tiger on my bei

i was running tiger on my beige g3 266 mhz, with a reflashed radeon 7000, and i loved it! so my opinion would be to go for it! like ddtm says, "If it ain't broke, take it apart anyways. If you can't take it apart, break it so that you can fix it."!

Well, i decided to go ahead with it...

and in the mean time, i found my SCSI Dropped off the face of the earth... Shoot...
Problem is, i got the machine for SCSI, and am not sure i want to invest anymore into this machine. It's probably got over $300 worth of parts, and I really don't want to upgrade/replace any more of this.

I first made the startling discovery when going into the system profiler under OS 9, and found that they only Drive Busses, were IDE 0 and IDE 1. But SCSI didn't show up. I have EVERYTHING terminated right, i have checked the cable. Even the external SCSI doesn't work. and I tested that with a working Zip drive with the Zip drive terminating itself at the end.

I really don't know what to do...

Anyone got some tips & tricks?

Maybe try not terminating som

Maybe try not terminating something? My Mac II is like that. It prefers that its drives are unterminated.

SCSI

You might try checking the memory (reseating it) or checking the SCSI connections and try moving the video card to a different slot. I know it sounds crazy. I changed the video card in my 9650 from a IX Micro 128 to a ATI 16meg 128 and lost two of my hard drives and had boot problems. I changed the card and all the problems went away. Its worth a try

Definitely...

Go for it for sure. I run Tiger on both of my beiges. Before that, i used 10.2.8, and found it much slower than Tiger. I've also enabled PCI Extreme on both of them to get silky smooth effects in aqua. Only downside to it is when you use the DVD player fullscreen, it flickers when you move the mouse. Otherwise, no problems, and a HUGE performance benefit compared to Jag.

One has:

1 Ghz G3 Powerlogix w/ 1Mb L2 OC'ed to 1.17 Ghz
83 Mhz bus
768 Ram
Radeon 7000
120 GB and 80 GB IDE drives
DVD rom and CDRW drives
external 160 GB in firewire enclosure
USB 2 and firewire pci cards
USB bluetooth
Currently residing in an ATX case

I use it mainly for my daily internet/IM/email/itunes/ipod/movies/DVD machine. It even plays sim city 4 fairly well.

The other guy is still in its desktop box.
It has:

Xlr8 500 Mhz G4 OC'ed to 542 MHz
83mhz bus
384 ram
Radeon 7000
30 GB IDE
CDrom drive
Buffalo 802.11G PCI card
USB 2 card

The second IDE channel is dead, so i cant use the CDROM unless i pull it apart and make it a slave. I dont use it for much except for recording with my guitar in garageband '06 from time to time in my basement, which runs well surprisingly. Go for the upgrade
