Imac DV chimes to blank black screen

I've been checking out the forum for my problem but can't find it. My imac dv 400 will try to boot up.. you can hear the chime and the hd power up but the screen remains black. It's running OSX.9.2.2 so it's not the firmware problem. Also, I took out the hd and dvd/rom and checked them in another computer and they are fine. I changed the battery from another imac that boots fine but it could still be low and I changed to ram I know to be good but still everything remains black. I've been told it could be the PAV board but I thought you didn't even get the chime when that went bad. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Cie

Have you even tried booting an OS X CD? Just doing that can cause the firmware issue, even if you don't install it.

Time to replace PAV

I picked up two iMacs, 400 & 500mhz, and they both would chime but not start up. On this page - http://www.applefritter.com/node/10574 - you can see what I did to get the 400mhz G3 working, right now as a matter of fact. Still needs a case.

PS - When checking the PRAM battery check the voltage AND the amperage. I had one that was fine volts wise but no amperage.

Time to replace PAV & boot copies of OSX

Ok.. I checked every place online I could find.. lots of seraching and finally I noticed that on the apple site it says that if you can start up with an external monitor (making sure you have one that is compatible) then it's the PAV board. But if you still cannot start up, it's something in the motherboard. Thank goodness I have a couple of motherboards hanging around from old imacs I bought cheap on ebay. I will try that and let people know once I have the right monitor and an ohm meter. Also.. this has nothing to do with this subject, but I found a way to make boot copies of my OSX cds, using Toast 6... I know everyone says it can not be done, but they are wrong. If you wanna know how, email me at cinthie@aol.com.

One day the now infamous iMac

One day the now infamous iMacDV PAV board problem will claim all the iMacDV's still in existence. Used eMacs must be fairly cheap by now...hint,hint.
