IR in optical mouse- any takers?

I have been thinking, everyone has been changing the LEDs in their optical mice to almost any color imaginable. Pretty much success has had to do with the intensity of the LED. I was wondering if the optical sensors in those mice could pick up infrared? That way, there would be no blinding light at night. Everyone but you would think it was broken when plugged in.

Looks like some one has already done it.

I can't wait to do this. I have a perfect mouse in mind. It shall look so worn and broken and in such a state of disrepair, that it will probably get thrown out, if I don't watch closely.

Been done

Linky

...this might a good compliment to an optical mouse in an old ADB or serial carcass hack.
Having no glow would help keep the mouse's optical innards a secret. Wink

I wonder if that is what early IR mouses used? I saw an optical ADB mouse, but it didn't have a visible light.
