Lately, my beloved Lombard has been acting a little strangely. In particular, I'm getting strange white flashes on the built-in display. Sometimes thin lines, sometimes large portions of the display. Sometimes horizontal, sometimes vertical.
I have reinstalled Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) to rule out software problems. I've replaced the inverter board and the display cable (not a trivial operation) to rule out problems with the display connections, but the problem still persists. The backlight is fine, nice and bright. And when the video is not flashing, it seems okay (occasionally a little washed out), so I don't think it's the LCD.
This brings me to the conclusion that the video on the logic board is the culprit. If anyone else has experience with this problem on this model, I'd sure appreciate a second opinion before investing the time and money to replacing a MLB.
Thanks in advance,
cwsmith
I know that these models have an issue when installing OS X with a 256mb module in the lower slot... perhaps you have a module going bad and causing some video issues?
Hmmm ... hadn't heard that one before. I'll pull it later and see what happens. Any other things I should be looking out for, 'fritters?
I tried pulling the 256MB stick from the bottom slot -- still same video problem. Swapped the bottom 256MB stick into the top slot (with bottom slot still empty) -- more of the same. Tried a 128MB in the top slot -- still no joy. It ain't the RAM.
Looks like I'll be haunting eBay for a new 400 MHz MLB. Any other advice before I make a bid?
