my wallstreet seems to be taking gradually longer to boot as time goes on. i'm not entirely sure, but i'm suspecting that my ram upgrade t0 192mb from 64 is taking the computer longer to check itself as the delay occurs after the chime and before the drive and screen turn on. another issue which seems harmless if the sleep light stays on longer than it used to when i plug the computer in, but that might be my pram battery on its way out and it isn't affecting anything yet.

A delay in the power light to appear may occur on cold starts (i.e. starting up after a shutdown, instead of a restart). The delay occurs during the memory/hardware test phase of the boot process. The delay can be longer in seconds based on the amount of RAM that is installed.
For users that are unhappy with this delay, Mac OS 8.5 & up offers a hidden feature to disable the startup memory tests. To do this, hold down the" Command & Option" keys while opening the Memory control panel. Below the RAM disk information part of the window, there will be a set of radio buttons to selectively turn on or off the startup memory tests.

Hey,
Do you connect often to a server? If so, check the "Server" folder in the system folder. Delete what's there, if anything. The computer will attempt to reach every icon in there, slowing the boot time.
Just a thought . . .

it doesn't connect to any servers, but i have seen how it's been slowed when doing that in the past. that delay was much longer however and occured as soon as i reached the desktop. i'll try disabling memory tests because it's been rather irritating.
interesting new obeservation in relation to the sleep light. for the second time i think the computer has refused to wake from sleep. sleep light blinks quickly and stays on for a very short time when doing so. however, holding down a key made the blinking slow and the light stay on longer. it finally woke when i put in a battery and unplugged it. that might just be in relation to my pram battery will, but interesting.
