so i wanted to get a usb keyboard and move the keys around and remap the keyboard so when i push B, for example, it would register that I pushed Command+B. is there a program that I get that will do that? also, will it affected my laptop's keyboard also?

. . . Mac OS were editable resources for KBD remapping, but it did affect the whole ADB chain. In this context, I think it's probably safe to assume that the same will be true of system level hacks for .txt input over USB in X.
I think what you will probably need is a programmable keystroke input device. Check out the Nostromo GamePad if you want an individual application specific macro input peripheral, mine rocks!
I was looking to do something simular for a project I am working on. I have taking a good iBook Mobo from a bad case and screen and will be mounting it in an new case for an AV device.
I want to have buttons on the case to trigger various events in iTunes (next song, prev song, play, pause...etc)and iPhoto (next pict... etc)
I would not mind remapping the keys as I will not be using a keyboard at all when completed. Any information you find out I would love to hear about. This would help my project along....
I'm not at the stage where i need to be looking at these functions at all. [see other post]

. . . Thread for that kinda I/O sleight of hand, shane. A couple of the suggestions sound perfect for what you plan (mebbe one there or the maniac's suggestion in the barracks thread, now that I think about it . . .) for AV script input and to use alongside a standard USB KBD/Mouse.

p.s. congratulations on your newlywed status!
Thanks JT... looks like some good reading ahead of me. Downside... the iBook I will be using broke off its only USB input, when the case was damaged. I would need to brush up on my soldering skills before i could use it.
BTW how did you know about my newlywed status? I din't recall mentioning it here.

. . . actually, it took me a few minutes to go to the videotape . . .
I'd posted the reply to you here, then tracked down the referenced post (naughty-naughty! . . . makin' me look by not providing linkage when you pique my curiosity!)
. . . then I was answering a question about the details of the DeclROM-ToggleDockHack® in the PB100cPPC thread . . .
. . . the search for appropriate linkage back at AF1.5 brought me right back across your byline/sig in the only hit that came up . . .
whatever . . . I read it on your site! :ebc:

edit: reverse the posting chronology, obviously . . . or I may have being my customary bargeload of typos and added the congrats . . . whatever . . . it's all rodent rumpage under the bridge . . . =8-}
edit2: LOL! see what I mean! The above should read "been editing" . . . .

So i went and picked up one of the Nostromo Game pads. It is awesome! I am using LabView, an engineering programming program, and I have one setting for that and one for Garageband. I would recommend it to anyone.
Ain't it tho, enjoy!
OOPS! I just realized mine is the SpeedPad, which one did you get? I'd like to get the mouse too.
