Macbook Pro 15" 2007 model keyboard problem - Which Component is faulty?

Hello

I've a macbook Pro 15.4" A1226 model mid 2007.

Basically I've known about a problem for a while, the keyboard does not work all the time.

The power button works ok when switched on & off.

I followed a thread on fixing this, by placing a rolled up piece of paper on a ribbon cable in the battery compartment.

I got the impression from various threads it was the 'TOP COVER CASING' at fault.

But having continued to research the issue, it seems the ribbon cable that needs pressure applied to it, is the one for the keyboard.

Can anyone confirm the actual faulty component?

1) TOP COVER
2) KEYBOARD

Basically I have ordered a replacement top cover & feel this may not cure the problem & do not want to buy parts just for the sake of it.

I'm sure there are other people who have experienced this.

Cheers.
