Hello, here is the challenge :
I have a Sony HS10 projector it has a fantastic pictures with DVI input
I use my Powerbook 667DVI to play DVDs
BUT there is a problem while its has WXGA panels, I can use only computer mode in XGA mode.
There is a special Video mode listed in the HS10 manual
its 1366x768, 56HZ
In the Wintel word, HS10 owners can only enable this mode using a video hacking program that allows to choose freely the video parameters of for instance, an ATI7500 based videocard.
This program is called PowerStrip and I could not find anything doing the same thing for the Mac
.Is there some mac genius here that knows how to hack the ATI software driver to add a new WXGA mode to the HS10. I have found there is a table inside the driver that lists all possible modes.
Waiting for your ideas.
thanks!
PS I have found this on the net

discussing about video modes of HS10
. . . asking this question in MacAch over on ArsTechnica? You may get some suggestions here, but this sounds like something you'll have a better shot at getting info on over there.

Here are a couple of utilities that may help you out. SwitchRes sounds more promising, but I've never actually tried either of them, so YMMV.
I had tried SwitchRes last year but wasn't aware taht they had this new version (it's online since november)
Well the miracle happened. for the first time in macintosh history, it's possible to get access to all video formats supported by a monitor.

Sony HS10/HS20 "1 to 1" pixel mapping in DVI mode has been thoroughly discussed on avsforum.com.
If anyone is interested the 3 important parameters for HS10 are VerticalFreq=56,000Hz
and the active (real format) is 1368x768 (NOT1366x768 as stated in HS10 user manual , I lost some minutes because of this "typo"(?)
the FRONT/SYNC/BACK are 1/3/21 lines and 64/144/208 pixels
before this I was playing DVD in XGA mode. (the 16/9 part for is 1024x576). in this mode the HS10 performs well, but since you have to zoom toomuch to get a home theater size image, the image becomes pixellated and there is some LCD "screendoor" effect.
Since using the WXGA mode is a quantum leap in image quality. The screendoor is COMPLETELY gone. Pixels have now disappeared leaving place to a filmlike image.
The HS10 quality is really at the top when used in HTPC-DVI setup. I really recommend those who wants to setup a home theater to try this projector (HS20 now in even better)
For the surround output a cheap Sonica Sonica USB allows my TIBook 667DVI to output any format event 6.1 (you don't need the Sonica theater model to output 7.1)
Thank you again James.
I'm glad it worked out for you. Sounds like a nice litle setup you've got going there.
