I can't afford a dual G5. But I always liked the Atlon 64. So, when the ASUS motherboard on the Atlon XP 1700+ died. I shopped for a replacement MB, any decent MB is aroun $135+. And the PC133 SDRAM is also out dated. All the new socket A board uses DDR. Factor all that in, I can rebuild the system with the 64 for about $300 more. It's my excuse to get one.
So, Here I am, with an ASUS K8V SE deluxe, AMD Atlon 64 3000+. And 2x256mb DDR 400 RAM. I started to wander what should I do about OS's. I'll eventaully have Linux or SCO in it, but for the time being, I'll settle for Win XP Pro.
The Question that hit me was. Is there a special 64 bit version of XP for Athlon64 or Do I just install regular XP the software update will take care of itself?
Anybody with experience with the Athlon 64 out there? help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot
