Well, I felt like turning my Macintosh SE on yesterday to type up some stuff, and it shows the happy mac, and just loads up to the "Welcome to Macintosh" screen and then freezes. I tried using a boot disk and the same thing happened. It was just sitting there! I didn't drop it or bang it or anything. I have no idea why it's doing this. Does anyone know what I should do? I really want my SE back.

... booting it up with the extensions off? Hold down the Shift key as it's starting.
It could be that an extension is misbehaving or has corrupted preferences. Was it working ok before you last shut it down?
I don't know if os 6.0.8 has extensions, which is what it's running. That does sound like it might be the problem though, but I don't know really. And yes it was working perfectly fine the last time I used it.
You need to boot to another drive, hold down cmd-opt-escape-del to prevent the hosed drive from mounting. then run Disk Doctor or late version of Disk Warrior or similar to rebuild directories.

My SE did thay when the harddrive died.
Old HardDrives are very fragile.
I have several Mac 68k, about 12 (I love Macintosh!),
and twice harddrive died.
Well, I don't really need the Hard disk, I've got boot disks, so it can run off of a disk (like the original macintosh). The only thing is that when I try to do that, it freezes just as it would if I were using the hard drive. It just gets to the "welcome to macintosh" screen and stops! So is just my hard disk fried, or is it more?
Somewhere between the Welcome to Macintosh screen and the appearance of the Finder, the boot floppy will try to mount the hard drive. A corrupt hard drive could be hosing things up here. The only way to be sure is open the case, physically disconnect the hard drive (either the ribbon, the power connector, or both), and try the boot floppy again.
I opened it up and disconnected the hard disk, the same thing happened. No finder. Just "Welcome to Macintosh." Could it be a motherboard problem? I know it's not ram becasue I changed out the ram.
"I know it's not the ram because I changed out the RAM."
When? Still have the old RAM? Is the RAM seated snugly? Yadda yadda yadda.
It's not the ram because I switched the ram from a newer SE into this one, and the newer SE is working fine with the broken SE's ram and was working fine with the ram it had in it, which is now in the broken one. Did that make any sense? And yes, it is seated snugly and all that.
