iBook G3 isn't using the whole screen

Hi all, I recently got a iBook g3 from ebay and had to reinstall the os... 9.2...when I got done everything seems to work fine except the its only using the center section of the availble screen, I've tried changing the resolution but it won't allow me to do so, there is only one option...I've also reset the PRAM and that didn't seem to work either... does anyone have any suggestions

What iBook?

What do you mean by "center section" of the screen? A little black border, a few mm is normal. A screen size of say 4" is not.

"iBook G3" covers a lot of models over ~4 years. Is it a clam shell iBook (colored, looks like a toilet seat)? If so then your stuck with 800 X 600, the last model may have supported 1024 X 768. If it's a white iBook (dual USB, looks like tooth) then you can go up to 1024 X 768.

if there is only one setting,

if there is only one setting, uncheck "show recommended modes only" or something of the like.. should solve the resolution problem.

trash some prefs

drag the Preferences folder out of your System Folder to the desktop and reboot. My bad brain forgets which pref holds that setting, I was thinking Display Prefs but I see my OS 9.2.2 folder ain't got one of those. Maybe it's the System Prefs? Or Mac OS Prefs? Rats, sucks getting old! Blum 3

I have the same problem. I'

I have the same problem.
I'm running osx 10.3.8 and have 9.2.2
When I switch to 9 my display is showing only a small amount with a black border (a THICK black border). I tried to change the resolution but I have no options to change it at all. Not even in the recommended part. Nothing. I've trashed preferences, trashed system prefs, trashed display prefs. It does no good.
I have an iBook G3 (white) 641 mgs ram 800 mhz.
When in osx, I have 3 choices to choose from.
So what's the scoop? Any help would be appreciated.

lol

Did someone use the Screen Span doctor on it. I had that problem when I used it in OS X and then switched to OS 9. I Had to wipe the NVRAM and the PRAM, then reinstall the OS on it. For some reason, OS X can cope with the change in the Open Firmware, But OS 9 can't. You might need to follow the steps to wipe the NVRAM, then the PRAM, (In that order) Blow away the Hard drive. (the complete thing, BACK UP FIRST)
And then reinstall the system. I know about this personally. There is prob an option to do screen mirroring on a S-VIDEO/ External VGA (I think it is detecting that there is a TV with a Max. Rez of 600 x 800 and the screen is native to 1024 x 768. so it tries to cram the 1024 x768 into the space of the 800x600)

Wrong type of OS is installerd for classic. You need the same version/revision as the one on the actuall discs that come with the iBook
