Poewrbook noise.

My brand new (3 month ) powerbook 15inch 1.3 ghz has started making a strange noise whenever the power cord is plugged in. It almost sounds like the hard drive is reading all the time, but more quiet then that. If I take out the cord it stops after a few seconds. It is coming from the same general location as the hard drive, but further toward the screen. What could it be, and should I be worried?

Looking at the service manual

Looking at the service manual for the 15" AlBook, the noise is almost certainly the fan. Try propping up the powerbook or buying a cooling pad that it can sit on. If both fans stay on all the time, you should ask Apple.

Toehead,

You bumped the thread, but you never said whether or not you tried the suggestion that someone gave you. Any more information you could offer?

Its not the fan Sad When the fan does turn on, the sound is to the left, and if you listen closely you can still hear the noise.

Well, since your 'book is only 3 months, I'd suggest taking it to an Apple store and see what they say. You're still under warranty so you likely have nothing to worry about it. Let us know!
