Pismo and CPU Director

I was looking for software that I might need to use a CPU Upgrade, and ran into this:
http://plx.crmdesk.net/index.php?_a=downloads&_m=get&_i=50

CPU Director by PowerLogix

I tried it on my PB Pismo and iMac DV and am able to set the L2 Cache to half the Processor speed, have any of you tried this? I have gotten better benchmarks w/ the Cache speed at 200MHz instead of the original setting (160MHz) I am thinking of trying it on more computers and seeing If it will work on them...

When trying it on the iBook, it allows me to set the PLL Settings and it crashes on every setting that I tried except the Original (400MHz), I am scared to go to other PLL Settings as I do not want to Kill the CPU.
Also, the CPU Director allows me to set energy saving options (L2 on/off, Speculative Acces on/off) on the 750 (not fx/gx/whatever, just the original G3) I am wondering if it changes the CPU Speed down or up when some of these features are enabled/disabled (I am pretty sure that the 750 can't be speed adjusted).
Another thing is, can I set the L2 Cache on a 603e/604e too.
Thx in advance for all the people that respond to this.

Update

I tried the CPU utility on a 603e: 603/604 = no go!
the INIT file in the extensions folder crashed the system every time it started up... After looking at some stuff... it requires that a G3 or G4 (either stock or upgrade) is the CPU. It did recognize that there was a 603ev as the Processor. I guess I will have to wait til' I get the 400MHz G3 upgrade for the PCC PowerBase

Its for G3's and G4's only. And you can setup the cache speed yes, but it may become unstable. And the real world difference is very little. A Faster cache only helps when the CPU is much higher clocked then the bus speed. Like a faster L2 cache really helps a 1GHz processor on a 100MHz bus. But a 400MHz proc on a 100MHz bus isnt really starving for data, so the cache plays less of a roll.

ahhhh....

Well.... I thought it might have been worth a go for faster speed. The problem is that I can't set the L2 on the 900MHz G3 iBook. It would be nice if I could. Does any one know of a utility that would allow me to do that? I know that the 750fx is speed adjustable, and was hoping that I could set the L2 higher. I do know that the game Runescape (online RPG: www.runescape.com) runs a little smoother. I mean, I can actually play MP3's and the game at the same time. The game now runs at the same smoothness w/ iTunes open as it did with the lower L2 setting and iTunes not open (Also no other apps could be open and playing runescape at the same time without a major slow down)
Thanks for responding!

The L2 on the 750FX runs at processor speed, it would be pointless to have a cache faster then the processor Wink

ok that's why

I wondered why I couldn't set it differently, But then again, I guess I wouldn't want to according to you. Beee I thought since the cache on the 750 ran at 3:2, the 750fx would run at the same ratio too. thanks for clearing that up. Also thanks for your input. Boy I'm looking forward to that upgrade. I thought that the PowerComputing used a proprietary slot for the PowerBase series, but I guess it uses the same slot config. as the 604 macs. Therefore, I don't have to get a special upgrade for it that would cost a lot. Smile I had a Vimage G3 240 for a 6360/6400, but it does not work w/ the stock video chip that the PowerBase comes with (in fact, it works with hardly any of them). Luckily, I have a friend paying for the upgrade as a christmas gift. Acute
