Power supply

I have an iMac G5 and shall be moving to the UK. I am worried about the power supply, I have had several conflicting suggestions (mainly from apple staff). Any ideas on how I can avoid blowing my computer up with 240v would be very welcome.

Most switch mode power supplies support 120 - 250V AC. What does it say on the back of your iMac?

Check the label on the back of your iMac near the power socket. Apple often makes their low end machines only support one voltage to save about 2 bucks on the power supply.

I remember clearly when that cutback was made. I roasted 2 eMacs by plugging them into 265V.

On further investigation, I believe that the American iMac G5's only support 120V, where as the european iMacs support 120 - 250V...

Could he use one of those 240V to 120V adapters? They provide an output of around 100W and cost about £20.

You are going to need more than 100W, but they make those converters up to quite large. Probably cheaper to buy a new power supply.
