I JUST GOT A POWERMAC G3 WITH OS-9. I NEVER HAD A MAC BEFORE. AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE OWNERS PASSWORD IS. HOW CAN I RECOVER THE PASSWORD WITHOUT WIPING OUT THE ENTIRE COMPUTER????

Have you tried asking the prevous owner for the password first? (might as well try the simple things first).
yes i've tried that and they dont know it beacause the person who set the password was mot her. it was her old boyfriend who isn't in contact with her at all. i know you can boot up from the OS cd but i dont know what to do after that. what do you click to reset JUST THE PASSWORD AND NOT TOUCH ANY OTHER FILES????? :?
As I recall, you can reinstall the system without removing any files. It's the default option, but that's only if memory serves. I don't have an OS 9 CD, or a computer that'll run it with me right now, so if someone better versed in OS 9 could speak up, that'd be great.
I know it was possible in OS 8, but I skipped from 8.6 to 10.2, so I can't make any promises.
Oh, please try to use proper capitalization and punctuation. It will get a better response here than a caps lock key.
