Clamshell DVD

Greetings, I recently bought a Clamshell on ebay and it worked wonderfully until one day the dvd drive started sticking when pulling out or pushing back in. I pulled a little farther out and the whole thing fell into my hand. It was working perfectly, but now I'd like to reinstall it. Any suggestions on how to do this? Any sites that give step by step instructions? Also how difficult is this and where do I get a torx 8?

thanks,

freckles

I think he was talking about

I think he was reffering to the tray. It's a little hard fo the Drive to come out seeing how it is screwed down in so many places. (at least two). I have taken both the Clamshell and a CD-RW/DVD apart. It is what I consider medium (I go into laptops about every other day) But it is really difficult. I'll try to find a manual for you, but it may be a few days before I could PM you about it.

All I can tell you [cuz I don't open these things all the time] is that the tray fell out and the ribbon connector along with it. Does that tell you if the tray only or the whole drive? I tried to reconnect the ribbon but didn't know how to actually get to the receptor of the ribbon connection. Seems that I have to access from the underside.

Any thoughts? or help?

torx 8

thanks for the info. I'll try to get one. Are the screws difficult to come by? Do you by any chance have a web site for reinstalling this thing?
