ethernet crossover between a OSX powerbook and an OS9 pb...Help Please...

not sure if my last cry for help was heard...so here it goes again...
can't seem to get these two g3 powerbooks to talk to each via ethernet crossover cable...i connect one end of crossover cable to the wallstreet with OS9 and the other end of the cable to the pismo with OSX...then i've experimented with all the software i can find in both systems to get data from one to the other...appletalk and various networking programs (e.g. appleshare, network browser, tcp/ip, etc.) seem to just get my desires confused...i can get the two machines to recognize eachother, but they won't connect to eachother and file share...i realize i'm a bit of a neophyte but i seem to remember this being a lot more simple when both machines had the same OS...if anyone has any advise, comments, or suggestions...i would be deeply grateful and relieved...thank you...

Try using the same OS

I think that you'd be better off doing this operation with both computers using the same OS. Your powerbook G3 running OSX should be able to restart in OS9: select "System Preferences":"Startup Disk". Give it a minute or two to detect the OS9 partition, then select it and "restart" using the new selection. You should'nt have any incompatibility issues then.

ethernet connect still bummer...

thank you for the apple link...but i've done all of that...maybe i just don't know how to access the other computer...i don't know...it seems like i should just be able to configure for appletalk and go...but i guess thats just not the case...i've configured both computers network panels or rather file share panels...but i can't seem to get the powerbooks to interface...now they don't even acknowledge that the other is there...i'm at a loss...but i know it can be done...
