Is the slot cover on the back of the Mac Classics for? There doesn't seem to be a card slot on the board, was this ever used? And if not, why was it in the case, then?

My classic has no slot cover, are you sure it's a Classic? (the SE and SE/30 series were the only compact macs to have slots IIRC)
My old Classic II had what looked like a slot cover on the back. I thought I remembered seeing it on another Classic too.
Do you mean the cover above the Power Switch? That covers the monitor controls and is not a slot cover. It allows you to adjust them manually (the classic has a software brightness setting).
I know that thing, what I'm talking about was on the other side of the machine.
Now that I see a picture of the back of the Classic II, it looks completely different. I don't know what I had, but I'm regretting throwing it out now.
A really rough picture I made of where the cover thing was is http://img98.exs.cx/img98/9612/macclassiciib0ru.jpg .
