rebuilt battery-pack on clamshell iBook

Well, I finally got around to rebuilding the battery pack in my clamshell iBook. It went okay. I had a little trouble getting the solder to stick to the batteries in some spots, so the ends are a little 'fatter' than when Apple built them. This made it kinda tight going back in, but I got it in safely and securely. I did the reset commands as described in another thread (http://www.applefritter.com/node/4555#comment-9990). The battery is not charging and apparently did not reset (or something).

Looking for some help here...

The batteries are LG Li-Ion 18650 3.6V 2400mAh cells. I was very careful to connect them as were the originals.

TIA

I would suspect one or more cold solder joints, from that description.

before...

...before I crack the battery case back open and risk further damage to the plastics, is there some diagnostic info that I may be able to get from the software (eg. 'yes i see a battery, but it will not charge'; 'yes i see a battery, but it I just do not like it'; 'no i do not see a battery at all, even thgouh hardware tells me something is plugged in').

I am confident that the solder is sticking. These were tabbed baterries. I cannot pull the pairs apart by hand after my having soldered them together.

My only comment is to say you

My only comment is to say you might consider having a battery specialist weld the tabs together. That would be a much stronger and cleaner connection than soldering. It may possibly be that the solder connections introduce too much resistence to the setup. It is also possible that given enough current thorugh a poor (electrical) connection could cause overheating and bad things... Of course I'm just speaking from conjecture and all this could be bunk. no luck...

I did check my connections and the pairs are attached good. I did rework a few of the solder points to clean some things up and make sure that it was all good. I verified the voltage to make sure each half of the battery was connected up right. I would expect that if I can at least get a voltage reading off of the pack, I should be able to to get it to charge. Can anyone tell me what the voltage readings (where the connector mates to the computer) should be? I am sure now that my work here is good, so what else am I missing?
