Arg I wanted to cry and whine

I was at REPC yesterday. Someone brought in a Beige G3 tower, monitor, and all the baic other stuff. He wanted to sell, they weren't buying, so the guy paid them $16.25 to take it off his hands.

Stupid me == Afraid to ask him to sell it to me instead for $20.00.

And yet, they are selling much less nice boxes for 50 bucks!
If they dropped the price a bit I'd buy one! Admittedly I only want to pay $20 bucks but still they won't have to pay to send it to the dump.

1: what is REPC?

2: why didn`t you buy it?

I didn't think they would be okay with me saying hey I'll pay you 20 bucks for it, as he was about to pay them money to keep it.

RE PC is asort of clearing house/ scroungers find all for pc and mac and
computer related hardware. For instance, they have a table full of laptop carcases, some even work there are a couple of working pb 1**'s
there and a big box of various laptop bateries.

Going there is some where between a scrounging expedition and the dream filled treasure hunts of my childhood.

they keep all the mac stuff at the seattle store.

So did that poor old G3 go in the garbage? Is that what this shmo paid "them" for?

Generally at a place like that you are paying the fee to have the monitor properly degassed and the phosporous removed in an EPA approved facility. It's a federal/state requirement to not just toss bunches of CRTs in the landfill.

The fee the guy paid was to see that it was properly disposed of and they do. As for the g3, who knows? I got a peek in through the loading dock door to the backend room of the place. It was wall to wall macs. I may have drooled a little.

A while ago at the local place like that (www.surplusexchange.org) a guy came in with an old hihg-res display and a 16" Apple display, and a couple stripped LC machines. He didn't want to pay the $24 in fees ($12 per CRT) to get rid of them so I offered to haul them for him. Luckily they guys at SE know me and don't mind letting things get away if they are going to be put to use. And if I decide I don't need them and no one else wants them, they'll got back to SE anyway...
