clamshell ibook CD drive replacement

Ok So, my G3 Clamshell ibook's CD drive has stopped working. I checked around here and saw that someone recomended the Matsushita UJDA330 CD-r drive to replace it. So being stupid I ordered one thnking i could take my old one out and drop this one in....wrong. There is no cable to connect it! Anyone know what kind of cable I could need and if there is anything else i need to do? The drive fits perfectly but I just have no cable to connect it. And I was wondering if my OS (9.2) would recognize the drive once it is connected.. Thanks in advance you guys rule!

cable?

Use the connector attached to the old one. It may not look like a cable, but it functions like one.

You cant because it is glued

You cant because it is glued to the old drive
someone earlier said they had to turn it into a bus-master drive first..but I have no idea what that means....

re: You cant because it is glued

You just peel the old cable off the old drive and re-use it. It does come off.

If there is a driver I need to install out there, I sure can't find it. Thanks for your help everyone. I will keep checking back over the weekend in case anyone else has an idea. It just kills me becuase I know this has been done.....

try booting from HD with bootable CD in drive

Boot with a bootable CD in the drive while holding down the shift key to disable extensions. If the CD mounts the problem is with the HD OS's driver. A bootable CD has drivers written to its boot blocks which the CD drive will read whether or not there are any OS extensions present.

Also, what does Apple System Profiler say about the CD drive (specifically the unit number?) The original drive is set to bus master (unit # 0) which is the drive the Mac looks for when you hold down the "C" key trying to boot from a CD.
