I'm organizing the space around my basement server, and since the server is on all the time, I'd like to use it to power some of the surrounding peripherals.
I've got a hub that uses 12V - no problem there tapping into the server's 12V line, but the DSL model and Linksys router take 9V wall warts. All three wall warts are roughly rated around 1 amp.
Is there a risk applying 12V to these items?
Maybe, probably not if they use wall worts. Or just build a regulator for them. It's very easy.
