Hi everyone,
I recently purchased an old pb 5300c for the purpose of making a digital picture frame. I've taken the LCD out of its casing but, so far, have left the main case basically intact.
After I reset the power manager, the computer starts up and I get a normal screen image. However, the LCD is very dim, even after adjusting to full brightness. In fact, you can barely see the image at all. Any suggestions on what might have gone wrong?
PS--I'd love to be in touch with anyone who has worked on a 5300c frame to swap notes/ideas.
PPS--If any hacker hobbyists are in NYC, I'd be happy to meet in person and learn new tricks. Please be in touch. I'd freely share computer parts.
Hey,
Sounds like the backlight is gone or isn't connected. I'd check the cables. BTW, I'm in NYC. Do you have the service manual for the 5300?
Hey guys you can find the manual here:

I'm eyeing my old 5300c right now. What size frame are you using?
I think it's definitely a backlight problem--thanks for the tip. (Thanks also, chiggins68, for sending the manual--I hadn't looked at one for this model pb.) The backlight cable wasn't securely connected. However, even after reconnecting the cable properly, the screen isn't lighting. Resetting the power manager didn't help this time. Any suggestions?
As for the frame, I'm looking at a good sized 8x10 frame, matted down to 5x7.
